Family Activities For The Mid-Term Brought To You By Champion Green & The Family Edit
Between rain and restrictions, keeping kids entertained this mid-term is definitely going to be more challenging than other years! We wanted to help parents and caregivers with this challenge while also turning it into a positive way to support Irish businesses and organisations. Champion Green and The Family Edit have come together to create a list of things you can do to support local while keeping children entertained.

ONLINE ART
The National Gallery of Ireland has kindly provided a whole range of creative activities for families. This is a really fantastic way of exposing children and parents alike to renowned pieces of art and artists while making it fun and relatable for all!
DRIVE THROUGH PUMPKIN COLLECTIONS
Decorating pumpkins is definitely an activity that can be enjoyed at home this Halloween! There are dozens of places around the country that are offering drive through pumpkin collections adhering to all the latest safety advice so that you can make a whole day out of this family activity while supporting a local farm. Here are a few that we have heard about but if you don’t live nearby any of these, have a search in your local area.
Keane’s Garden Centre Galway
FAMILY FRIENDLY WALKS TOPPED OFF WITH A COFFEE & TREAT
Get your wellies and raincoats on or wait for a clear day and get outside for some fresh air! The Family Edit have a whole list of family friendly walks across different counties so you can explore areas on your doorstep. Why not reward yourself and the rest of your family with a little takeaway treat at the nearest cafe after your walk? You’ll feel extra good after some fresh air and exercise when you know you have supported a local business as well!
BRING THE THEATRE HOME
We know that finding enriching content for children to watch online or on tv can be a constant demand, that’s why we love everything that The Lime Tree Theatre in Limerick are doing as part of their Buladh Bos festival for children.Â
Check out this puppet making class they are holding online for just €2 per household.
ACTIVITY TUBE
Jiminy Eco Toys are based in Dublin but have an online shop too and they are just after getting some beautiful activity tubes that are made in Ireland, focusing on Irish wildlife and Irish landmarks. It contains colouring pages, activity pages and stickers, and of course the tubes themselves could probably be used for extra activities if you have a little imagination!
DON’T FORGET ABOUT BOOKS
Whiling away a morning or afternoon with cuddles and books is always time well spent. And with an abundance of Irish independent and online stores such as My Higher Shelf, Tales for Tadpoles and Halfway Up The Stairs there is something for every child, of every age and interest.Â
DRESS UP
We may not be Trick-or-Treating this year, but that’s no need for dress up to miss out! DIY ideas are in abundance online and can be reimagined using things from around your house. Or if you’d rather skip the DIY and go straight to the costumes, why not check out some of the amazing frontline hero costumes at Mermaids and Dragons or a whimsical fox mask from mom maker Qubashi.
CRAFT ACTIVITIES & BUYING LOCAL
Follow The Family Edit on Instagram for cute little craft activity ideas like making ghosts out of lollipops or mini pumpkins out of mandarins. If possible get down to your local small grocer instead of your large supermarket to pick up the things you need for these activities.Â
